The 2008 Presidential election Essay Example for Free

The 2008 Presidential political race Essay The 2008 Presidential political race will before long arrive as manyâ states have drawn their primaries nearer to the current day. It subsequently would benefit each person, regardless of how impassive they contemplate the political procedure, to distinguish it and where they lay inside the political range. It is a wellspring of incredible conflict for every single capable resident, when others excuse our political procedure and afterward grumble when they have never really change the norm and don't have the foggiest idea about the names of the up-and-comers. This could have recognized myself a couple of years back. I took a more prominent enthusiasm for the historical backdrop of governmental issues than what was befalling my nation in the current day. I at that point got mindful of legislative issues and in this way, had to know where I stood and why.. This doesn't generally remain constant and there are unquestionably special cases. In any case, the way that Republicans base their convictions on their confidence and Democrats base their convictions upon the Constitution first and maybe their confidence too, such issues as premature birth, gay marriage, undifferentiated cell research and the separate of the American family, all have constrained me to put one foot somewhere down in the Republican Party and the other foot outside of the two gatherings if the Republican Party overlooks the confidence of the individuals that they speak to as did the Democratic Party during the 1960s and 1970s. I see myself as a Kennedy Republican: solid good and strict confidence, unashamed of the enormity of this nation, constrained to improve conditions for minorities just as poor people, yet continually propelling self obligation, restraint and fin ancial conservatism  â â â â â â â â â â One of the soonest and most remarkable factors in an assortment of viewpoints inside my life, has been my family. Ironicly the individual who I gained the most from, presently casts a ballot uniquely in contrast to I do. My dad is an individual from his association at work so he is constrained to decide in favor of the Democratic Party. He does anyway can't help contradicting their positions on different social issues. The remainder of my family concur with me and generally vote as I do. I originate from a family unit and thus, certain encounters are viewed as a puzzle as opposed to what was before the standard. My adolescence was a long way from great. In any case, by the day's end, I realized that my folks would consistently be there to address my issues just as a couple of my needs. This didn't occur by chance however through difficult work and arrangement. My folks were hitched when they were youthful however didn't have kids until seven years into their marriage. The explanations behind this are two overlay: First, they didn’t have the cash toâ raise a family and second, they initially needed a steady marriage wherein to carry a kid into the world. Thus, I was managed a couple of more chances and profited legitimately from my folks obligation. That is one motivation behind why I am a solid devotee to moral duty. In the event that an individual perpetrates a wrongdoing, it is his shortcoming alone for submitting that specific infraction.  That is the reason I am against a liberated government assistance framework in which encouraging feedback is given for negative conduct. This excludes the individuals who are really down on their karma and notwithstanding their earnest attempts, can't discover productive business. This doesn't mean notwithstanding, that a person with no activity, no instruction and no huge other who might be there to share the monetary and enthusiastic weights that originate from having a kid, should keep on getting a heightened pace of installment from the administration, since that individual decided to have one more kid that they can't bolster. The youngster ought not be rebuffed for the reckless conduct of their parent yet the parent ought not be remunerated also. Liberated government assistance goads me continually. My dad maintained two sources of income so as to help his family. My mom is corpulent and is in sick wellbeing yet at the same time works 50-60 hours a week.â Rather than apply for incapacity benefits which she would clearly get, she can't agree to acknowledge installments from the administration for administrations that were never rendered.  My father is a painter in the mid year and a teacher the remainder of the year. One summer day, he was painting outside and lost his balance.â He fell and cracked his ribs on a forced air system unit. He had returned to work in two days with a wrap on his midsection. As a family, we were rarely poor and he could have stood to remain at home for one more week however on the off chance that he could work, he did and kept on doing as such, six days per week, fifty four teen days out of the year.  â â â â â â â â â â subsequently, I am solidly against proceeding with government endorsed encouraging feedback toward negative conduct as liberated government assistance installments. The present government assistance framework was begun under President Lyndon Johnsons War on Poverty† (Schlesinger, 1965 pg. 761) where it was expected that individuals would battle and hook their way back to become independent however simply required some assistance simultaneously. It couldn't be understood at that point, as it is still difficult to fathom today, that individuals would submit to getting government assistance installments for a considerable length of time and would even have more kids out of the inspiration of accepting a bigger government check. I feel that it is the obligation of the parent, more than culture and most likely more than the administration, to bring up and bolster that kid. I likewise accept that if the legislature is going to help and offer guide to those families who are incidentally experiencing tough situations that ought to be stood to them while urging that person to secure another position as quickly as time permits. The administration doesn't exist to fill in as a sitter for the American individuals. This isn't what the rights communicated in the Constitution states and it as opposed to the American hard working attitude which assisted with giving America the impact that it is for some time delighted in. Difficult work, obligation and discretion, I gained from my folks. Subsequently, I think that its difficult to endorse to present day Democratic idea that tries to ensure fetus removal when parental duty would have kept away from such issues, liberated government assistance while the individual can work and general social insurance when it is the obligation of the parent to take care of for the tabs of their own kids.  The subsequent extraordinary factor that impacts me is my strict confidence. An ever increasing number of individuals are distinguishing themselves as nonbelievers. The Republican Party has demonstrated that they have no place for them.. Along these lines, they go, in some cases as a matter of course, to the Democratic Party and influence the ideological group that used to represent Christian qualities. It has become a miserable reality yet one can't plan to pick up the Democratic designation for President except if the individual in question is master decision and genius gay union with some degree. Likewise, numerous Democratic are for undifferentiated cell research in which the human undeveloped organism is wrecked all the while. The Republicans don't have an imposing business model on what is correct and moral.. Be that as it may, the terms: The strict right and the common left are turning out to be increasingly precise, in spite of the fact that there are numerous special cases. Subsequently, as long as such issues remain so ruinous to the American good fiber of this nation, botches that the Republicans make, remembering numerous parts of the War for Terror, it is comprehended, won't keep going forever and in this manner, individuals ought not be exchanging their vote over to the Democratic Party.  â â â â â â No issue to what extent it takes, the war will be over before infants will be given the assurance of life that is found in the Constitution and if our progenitors were alive today, would flinch at the way that the act of killing a human life, now and then by puncturing their mind with a steel bar, is permitted and endured in this nation. The Bible expresses that God knew us while we were in our moms belly. (Book of scriptures, 2000 pg. 328) Abortion is avoidable in 99% of the cases if the guardians just had the craving not engage in sexual relations until they are prepared to persevere through the full results. A portion of the fault ought to be set at the feet of the individuals who execute this idea of an irreproachable society wherein the results of transgression which is currently viewed as wretched as a four letter word, is genuine and ought to be kept away from.  â â â â â â â â â â The equivalent can be said for the issues of gay marriage and immature microorganism research. Such things God takes very seriously.â However, the way that almost 20,000 homicides happen each year with the utilization of hand firearms and Republicans contend so energetically to keep that right, may appear to disillusion God too. The Republicans don't have a restraining infrastructure on what God needs for this nation. Be that as it may, genuine Christians can't move beyond sanctioned homicide and the proceeded with acknowledgment of homosexuality by our legislature. Such thoughts offer to numerous Americans and urges others to think about what our ancestors would state on the off chance that they were allowed to praise on what has befallen the ethics of this nation. There are numerous on the political left that shake their head in disappointment and nauseate when they hear such inspirations driving the Republican Party. This will probably be the situation as religion turns into a four letter word more now than in late history, As Muslim fanatics hurt, the religion of Islam as well as all religion as those outwardly glancing in and attempting to comprehend the individuals who guarantee a confidence as strict fundamentalists and radicals.  â â â â There has been a minor resurgence of confidence in America yet as much as Christians and others of confidence push for America to be the nation that it used to be in the zone of strict opportunity and articulation, secularists will push back similarly as hard. Albeit a questionable figure, Bill OReilly adjusted distinguished the issue as a culture war. It was disheartening yet to be expected that during the Clinton Presidency, the Christmas Tree turned out to be fairly an occasion tr

Cultural Changes Of The 1960s And 1970s

Social Changes Of The 1960s And 1970s During the 1960s Americans began to scrutinize the Americas culture of realism, industrialism and Political standards. In their journey into looking for a superior world, they utilized music, legislative issues and eccentric way of life handing down another lifestyle that was alluded to as the new counter culture. The 1960s were a time of dissent and changes as youthful American showed against the Vietnam War, the African Americans requested social liberties and the ladies were supporting for sexual orientation equality1. The saint, in this manner, was that individual who helped other people particularly in accomplishing these. Americans confronted numerous issues that extended from weapons contest, the social liberties development, the Vietnam War and to freedom gives that related to medicate use and sexual directions. This new culture fused the thoughts of harmony, love and solidarity just as the thoughts of religion, the spiritualist world just as utilization of medications to ext end one comprehension of his mindfulness. This development added to the incredible changes that influenced America as the adolescent were sufficiently gallant to challenge the set up specialists, were supporting for increasingly social resilience as the people groups impression of issues that concerned sex marriage, condition and kids rights gradually changed. A decent number of the young people got away from the issues of the urban communities like wrongdoing and medication maltreatment to discover shelter in the wide open where they manufactured new ways of life that underscored a typical political belief system and were confronted with profound stiring to enjoy new otherworldly experiences that supported the significant serenity for example the Yoga and reflection. Numerous Americans were under dread of the atomic holocaust. The stun of the Vietnam War and the partialities of the racial foul play were exasperated by the way of life of realism and industrialism a resultant of the savage free enterprise. To counter all these, the young people connected with at demonstration at schools, universities, holy places, lodgings and different offices. These young people were roused by pioneers, for example, John F Kennedy, Martin Luther ruler among others that went about as the political ring leaders2. A gathering of fair lawmakers and dissident that pushed for improved government assistance utilized the development of the government assistance state in California to contact the partys constituent alliance subsequently setting the starter phase of the partys character legislative issues of the 1970s and past. Hence the adolescent needed to change their appearance and character to suit whatever they were pushing for. These were done through garments, melodic verses and the declarations of expressions of the human experience that were utilized to unequivocally well-spoken and advocate for these progressions that concerned issues of free discourse, freedom and political changes; phenomenas were not new to the American culture as they are the reason for the American state. Music was utilized as a power of progress to change people groups contemplations and activity. It realized a culture change that depended on the hip jump culture. The design was not deserted as the men drew on group trims and the ladies had bouffant hairdos. By the center of the 60s, the ladies were wearing miniskirts and hot jeans that were worn with the go-go boots that uncovered the legs while the body wear uncovered the body bends of ladies as their hair was made either short or tall and dainty. The way of life finished creation ladies peasants. Such an excess of supporting was not futile as the time of progress came during the 1970s where the social tests were evaluated prompting change and incompletely demonstrated what the Americans would resemble during the 1980s. During the 1970s the territory of America finished its association in the Vietnam War and the common and ladies rights development achieved a large number of the objectives that they were pushing for. The economy as of now was hit by an extremely hard downturn (the cyclic idea of an industrialist economy) that saw high-financing costs and expansion. The repercussion was felt in the entire world prompting a drop in the gracefully of oil coming about into an intense defic iency of the item. The liberal democrats who were in influence for the vast majority of the 1960s lost during the 1970s to a preservationist lawmaker Richard Nixon where he had to leave during the Watergate scandal3. Gerald Ford the VP came in yet lost later. Carter who supplanted him was likewise removed because of his inability to improve the economy. These progressions of the 1970s influenced the mainstream society, training and legislative issues around America. In the film, radio and broadcast business, a mainstream program of the time was named All in the Family that was an assembly line laborer who loathed dark individuals and fervently contradicted ladies rights. Be that as it may, its his family that gradually made him alter his way of living and acknowledge the distinction of the Americas social texture. Different projects helped Americas to escape from the issues burdening them by portraying an idealistic glad life for example upbeat days and the Threes organization the m essage was likewise comparative in the music business. The people music was tremendously refreshing during the 1960s as it concerned the social problems4. With the coming of the 1970s various gatherings began to play hard rock and punk music. The changes additionally prompted an adjustment in the training framework as many individuals were uninvolved in advancing their instruction after school since they were caught up with upholding for social and political reforms5. The war in Vietnam had likewise stalled them with the view that more training prompted expanded imbalance. In the mid-1970s however, the need to get more cash-flow prompted numerous Americans going for advanced education as it had become worthy and advanced education gave the aptitudes that were required for this. During the 60s and 70 they were acting in an aggregate way and in the wake of accomplishing a large number of their objectives the center moved to bringing in cash and carrying on with an actual existence that they had since a long time ago wanted. An indication of getting progressively worried about their own life. This new counterculture finished creation poli tical choices that individuals don't bolster and focused on nature for the legislature and the province of America in general6. Notes. 1. Bruce J. Its the PI-nal countdown!

It’s the PI-nal countdown! If you ask anyone at MIT what they were like days before decisions came out, chances are theyll gloss over the ants-in-their-pants jitteriness they felt we (and by we I mean I) try to maintain the little pride that we have (p-sets took most of it away). But rest assured that two years ago, I was distracting myself like no other, convincing myself not to get too attached to this school. I had the state Science Olympiad competition on pi day and didnt get to check my MyMIT account until several hours after decisions had been released. Having discovered that three other kids from my school had gotten in (to have one would have been crazy enough and despite being told otherwise I was convinced that the central-Missouri quota had been fulfilled) and doubting my own credentials, Id accepted the fact that I hadnt gotten in and only checked my account to confirm my suspicion with 100% certainty. I read Pauls entry, was very much at peace with wherever Id end up, and then opened a rather une xpected letter from Stu Schmill. And here I am. The point is, weve been there we all know feeling of anticipation right before decisions are released, what it feels like to be accepted into a school, what it feels like to get a rejection letter. And the best way I can think of to calm your nerves right now is to assure you that whatever happens in two days, you are going to do great things and you are going to have a wonderful college experience if you want to and if you work for it. Out of fear of sounding insincere or trite, I hesitate to use these tired cliches, but theres nothing else I can really think to say. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and while you can debate the validity of that philosophy, what is absolutely unquestionable is that your applications were in amazing hands. You can read the quintessential MIT Blogs blog post and believe it, or you can take it from me and believe that the admissions officers here are some pretty-stinkin-beautiful folks. To say They care about you guys a lot is a gross understatement. Im sure in the coming days youll hear more from them, so Ill let them take it from here. In the meantime, I know you all are probably like, What is this, serious-Elizabeth? Where are the doodles? Where are the videos? I want some mindless distraction! Okay, okay. You didnt think Id actually post a couple days before decisions without something fun, did you?? Well, I took a couple things into consideration when crafting this next video: 1. The pi video that was up on Mikeys post. 2. The fact that pi day is TWO DAYS AWAY 3. The fact that I dont have to study for exams this weekend Without further ado, here is the Simmons 3AB musical interpretation of pi to 15 decimal places (yes yes, in honor of the class of 2015 because I love yall that much), as a result of us farting around for an hour or so this afternoon. It wont distract you too long, though its only 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Har. Sending peace and love your way, Elizabeth

Social Responsibility Of Coca Cola Essay - 1597 Words

â€Å"Have a Coke and a Smile† â€Å"A Coke is a Coke, and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same, and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.(Andy Warhol, 1975) Regardless of its corporate reputation, the organizational performance and its social responsibility of Coca-Cola makes it loved around the world. Ever since its creation in 1886 Coca-Cola has been a household brand known globally for generations of families. I have to mention, of all the cases researched this is my least favorite not only because of my childhood love for the product because the ethical issues in one way or another always manage to resolve themselves not before further tainting the reputation Coke worked so hard to obtain. Most times, whether an organization is innocent of an unethical act, it becomes secondary to the suspicion of the original act. Almost as if the court of public opinion has th e power to ruin the reputation of an organization based on an unfounded accusation. In spite of my loyalty after having ready the case, I do believe Coca-Cola to be flawed. The contamination scare in Belgium is a great example of a public relations nightmare. The slightest hint of impurity should have pushed Coca Cola into crisis management mode but they were slow to react, citing it a minor issue (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, (2011). In order to protect the society from harmful effects of marketing of products that are dangerous there are regulations that I would put to marketing of these product. (DesJardins Hartman, 2008). For cigarettes due to its negative health, effects it has it would be appropriate for markets to put a label on the cigarettes, which warns the smoker that the cigarette is harmful to his or her health and to the health of other members of the society. There should also be no program in the media, which should be sponsored by companies, which manufacture cigarettes. This would reduce creation of positive attitude about cigarettes to the public, which may lead to its increased consumption. The marketers should also not be allowed to put the large posters, which are used for advertisement in public places such as rods. For prescription, drugs there should be a regulation that the drugs should only be sold to those people who have a note from a physician prescribing him or her to take the drugs. They should also a label, which Cleary shows the negative effects they have if abused. For the handguns there should be registering of any handgun that is purchased this would help to reduce criminals obtaining them, licensing of handgun owners, there should also be prohibition of mentally ill people from obtaining handguns. All these regulations would protect the society from many negative effects caused by marketing of handguns. 2. There are usually two criteria that the federal trade commissions use to regulate advertisement. They use deception and fairness as the two criteria. An advertisement is unfair if it has harmful effects to the consumer. For example, if it is an advertisement of a product, which causes negative health effects, then such an advertisement can be termed was unfair. Deceptive advertisement is an advertisement, which uses false or misleading statements to attract customers. Deceptive advertising usually hurts the customers because they may contain statements, which may not be true, which may rue the customer to buy a certain product. This is because the advertisement may contain hidden fees and charges or manipulation of standards of the goods. There is decision-making process, which is used to determine how an advertisement can be unfair. One-step in this process includes looking whether the advertisement hurt and cause injuries the customer. If the advertisement is found to do this then it is taken to be unfair. The injury should be substantial in terms of monetary such as the seller forcing the buyer to goods or services, which are not wanted. The injury, must also be one that the customer could not have reasonably avoided. This is because market place should be self-correcting. The other step involves looking whether the advertisement violates the established public policy, which governs advertisement. Then there is an examination on whether the advertisement is unethical or unscrupulous. The advertisement should also give the consumer sufficient information so that the customer can be able to make informed decisions (DesJardins Hartman, 2008). References DesJardins, J. Hartman, L. Kenneth Branagh and Much Ado About Nothing essays

Kenneth Branagh and Much Ado About Nothing essays Much Ado About Nothing is perhaps William Shakespeare's most depressing comedy. Although it is ultimately uplifting, throughout the play there are themes that are also prevalent in such devastating tragedies as Romeo and Juliet and Othello. Trickery, deceit, and death are woven throughout this smartly written comedy; these themes stray from the typical heartening tone used in the rest of his light comedies. Kenneth Branagh took advantage of his artistic license as a director, through integrating concepts of resolution and optimism throughout the movie. Without any physical theatrical elements, Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is not an entirely lighthearted play. Branagh exercised his right as a creator when he diminished the heavier elements to appease his modern audience. In his film, Branagh softened Shakespeare's overtones of darkness by editing text and weakening the power of the antagonist, Don John. The antagonist of any story should be able to live up to his title – that is, he should be the catalyst for all major conflicts. In this case, the characters of Don John the Bastard and his followers – namely Conrade and Borachio, establish the unpleasant themes throughout Much Ado About Nothing, but not as thoroughly as the script suggests. Shakespeare's text provides all that is necessary to portray these characters as the miserable troublemakers they are, but Branagh's film does not delve into their complexities. In fact, the film ignored much of the evil from Don John and his crowd. Don John is not a man of many words, as he states in his introduction, so the few lines he does have become more important. Branagh chose to replace a large portion of the dialogue with action in the film. While this decision added dramatic effect and shortened lengthy scenes, it directly prevented further character development for the villains. Although the dialogue between Don John an d his conspirators was mostly expository, lines that wou...

The 70 Most Conservative Colleges in America

The 70 Most Conservative Colleges in America SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips If you hold strong political beliefs, you may want to go to a college where the students, faculty, and administration share your values. You’ll be more likely to find student groups that are aligned with your interests and beliefs. The values of the college will be more likely to coincide with your own, and you’ll probably have a more enjoyable college experience. In this article, I’ll give you the names of some of the most conservative colleges in the United States. Furthermore, I’ll detail the traits of conservative colleges, explain the possible advantages and disadvantages of attending a conservative college, and advise you on how to find a conservative college that's a good fit for you. Traits of the Most Conservative Colleges Conservative colleges are politically right-wing. The students tend to favor conservative positions like outlawing abortion, reducing the size of government, and protecting gun rights. Christian colleges are often more conservative. Many Christian colleges adhere to more traditional social views and rules that attract conservative Christian students and faculty. Furthermore, conservative colleges are more strict and regimented than liberal colleges. Conservative religious colleges like BYU and the College of the Ozarks have strict rules that all students must follow. At BYU, male students can’t have beards or long hair. These colleges are much less tolerant of alcohol and drug use than liberal colleges. Also, the armed service academies are known for being conservative. They have many more rules than the average college regarding personal appearance and conduct. Finally, the most conservative colleges often reflect the political leanings of their locations. Many of the most conservative colleges are located in conservative states. Examples of conservative colleges in conservative locations include Clemson University (South Carolina), Utah State, and the University of Alabama. However, there are conservative colleges in liberal states. Pepperdine and Thomas Aquinas College are conservative colleges in California, but they’re both Christian colleges. Possible Advantages of Attending a Conservative College If you're a self-described conservative, you may be more comfortable and happy at a college with many other conservative students. At very liberal colleges, students are often not that accepting and think negatively of conservatives. If you attend a conservative college, you’re more likely to meet people who share your political and social views, and you won't be ostracized for your beliefs. Also, at a conservative college, the faculty and administration are more likely to accept or believe in conservative values.Studies have shown that college faculty tend to be much more liberal. If you’re a conservative student, you may not prefer having your opinions evaluated by a professor who is likely to hold very different beliefs. Additionally, conservative colleges are generally more accepting of religious Christian students. Many of the most conservative colleges are Christian colleges that profess Christian values and attract Christian students. Even conservative colleges that are not Christian colleges have a larger proportion of Christian students than liberal colleges. Lastly, conservative colleges are more likely to stress discipline. The service academies require students to follow many rules regarding conduct and appearance. While young people often abhor rules, the discipline of service academy graduates may facilitate their success. The US Naval Academy and the US Military Academy both finished in the top 10 in Payscale’s rankings of the best colleges and universities by salary potential. Similarly, The College of the Ozarks makes all students work, but it’s a tuition-free college. US Military Academy Possible Disadvantages of Attending a Conservative College Depending on your beliefs and your ideal college experience, conservative colleges may not be a good fit for you. On issues of sexuality, conservative colleges are less likely to have resources for and be accepting of LGBT students. Similarly, the students at conservative colleges are more likely to be opposed to gay marriage. If you are looking for a college where LGBT students are welcome, you may feel like a misfit at a conservative college. Conservative colleges tend to have more structure. If you prefer more freedom and independence to direct your education and social lives, then you may feel restricted by the discipline of conservative colleges. For instance, some colleges have harsh rules regarding when you can have visitors in your dorm, drinking, and drug use. Finally, if you want a college where a wide range of students attend and where you can have your beliefs more regularly challenged, conservative colleges may be too homogeneous for your tastes. Conservative colleges tend to attract primarily students of conservative leanings. If you want a more liberal environment or a wide representation of beliefs, conservative colleges may feel one-note for you. Lists of the Most Conservative Colleges Niche Niche is a website that provides reviews, rankings, and statistics about neighborhoods and schools. Berry College Mount Berry, GA 66% Texas AM Cushing Memorial Library and Archives, Texas AM/Flickr Student Reviews Niche also offers student reviews of colleges. Here are some comments written by students of some of the most conservative colleges in the United States. I tried to include positive and negative aspects of each school related to its very conservative environment. Texas AM I absolutely love my school. There is a strong love and passion for the university reflected every day on campus. Most importantly, the importance of being honest and having strong character is reinforced at Texas AM University. I would not have wanted to have attended any other university. After receiving my undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics-Finance and Real Estate, I decided my time here was not over. I will now be attending graduate school to pursue my Masters of Real Estate. If I could do it all over again, I would not change a thing. Texas AM has to have the most ignorant, absurdly extremist right-wing culture I have ever encountered. I consider myself a conservative, but the sheer amount of bigotry and intolerance at this school is simply unacceptable for what is supposed to be an educated environment. I was always told that college was meant to expose you to a diverse group of people and help you prepare for a globalized world. AM does the opposite. It is a sheltered bubble for racist, homophobic, ethnocentrism coupled with extreme Christian and Republican views. Any sense of worldly knowledge, open-mindedness, or cultural exposure is met with disdain if not outright hostility. Brigham Young University I love attending Brigham Young University because it provides a learning environment that is compatible with my religious beliefs. The surrounding mountains are spectacular, and there are plenty of museums, theaters and libraries nearby. I hate the lack of diversity. I feel like although my classes are amazing, I'm not learning real life lessons because I'm in a Mormon bubble. However, there are a lot of cool opportunities. I love my professors and it's easy to get involved. US Military Academy Excellent options. You'll be making a lot of money. And people will want to hire you after the army. Drug tests are monthly, no civilians are allowed in cadet area, you cannot leave post hardly ever unless you are a senior, and you better drive the speed limit on post or you'll get pulled over. Grove City College My school has high academic, extracurricular and moral expectations. While others may dislike the high pressure to excel in multiple areas, Grove pushes us to do our best - to strive to reach our potential. In addition, Grove has a close-knit community. The school promotes and provides many opportunities for forming close connections with others. The campus is beautiful and the professors are superior. Grove City is a great college. Inter-visitation hours (where boys can go into girls dorms and vice versa) include Wednesdays from 7-10 PM, Fridays from 7PM-12 AM, Saturdays from 1PM-12AM, and Sundays from 1-10PM. While a boy/girl is your room, the door must be open 4 inches and a light other than the TV has to be on. You may think that those are just rules and people probably don't follow them. You would be wrong. Everyone follows them. If you have a boy in your room, you have to sign him in with your RA and then they go around during their shift to check to make sure your door is open and they can see a light. If they don't, they knock and come in to tell you to keep the door open or to turn the light on. Time limits are strict too; you gotta have them out right on time or the RA will kick them out. I'm not joking. This really happens. I've heard of people sneaking in on other days, but I've never seen it myself. There's no alcohol on campus and even if there is it's hidden away in someone's room who probably isn 't going to share. Grove City College How Should You Use These Lists of the Most Conservative Colleges? If you want to go to a very conservative college, you should research the colleges that interest you on the Niche and Princeton Review lists to determine if they’re schools you should apply to or attend. There are many factors to consider to determine if a college is a good fit for you including location, selectivity, support services, and the majors offered.Look at the school’s website, and use guidebooks, college finders, search websites, and other ranking lists to help you in the college selection process. If possible, consult with teachers, counselors, parents, current students, and alumni. What If You Want to Go to a Conservative College, but a School You're Considering Isn't on the Lists? Just because a school didn’t make either list doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not conservative. Look at the school’s website to see if there are student groups that are aligned with your political and social views. There may be student groups for Republicans, conservative politicians, or members of the NRA. Sometimes, there will be an organization contact listed on the website. If so, you can contact a representative of the organization and ask about the atmosphere on campus. Also, you can consult other sources that evaluate or grade how conservative a college is. On the Niche profile for each college, under "diversity" for each school's guide, there is a category called "political activity" that describes the political activity on campus. For example, this is how Duke's political activity is described: Duke, like most universities, has a strong liberal streak, but conservatives have made their voices heard, as well. There are a variety of political organizations on campus that are populated by a significant percentage of the student body. Students advocate for a wide range of political causes, and the University regularly schedules guest political speakers, which are usually very well attended. For example, in 2010, more than 1,000 tickets to see Al Gore lecture sold out in a matter of minutes. Also, on the College View college finder, you can select that you’re â€Å"only interested in schools with a very conservative climate† and search for colleges that fit that criteria, and there are 20 other search categories to help you narrow your college search. Finally, remember that the political leaning of a college is often reflective of the area where the college is located. For example, colleges in the Northeast tend to be more liberal, and colleges in the South tend to be more conservative. You can determine if a specific city or town is liberal by looking up the candidates it supported in the last election and its views on various political and social issues. Keep in mind that there are conservative cities in liberal states and vice versa. Also, Christian colleges and service academies are typically more conservative regardless of their locations. Based on the past four presidential elections, the red states are the most conservative. What's Next? Racial Identity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Racial Identity - Essay Example They impose upon individuals certain obligations and expectations dictated entirely by one’s sex. As a result, how men and women experience the world will differ accordingly. And it is precisely this â€Å"experience of the world† that shapes our identities, both as individuals and as members of groups that we strongly identify with. Ultimately, our shared experience with others molds our identity as an individual. The bifurcated experience of males and females living in antagonistic cultural circumstances provides a crucial factor, sociologically and psychologically, in the development of personal identities. Two short works by Zora Neale Hurston and Brent Staples each illustrate the unique factors that go into the construction of identity, which is largely contingent upon one’s sex. The creation of one’s social and personal identity is not something which happens in one event or experiment. It is a process of layering: the taking of particular experiences and building the edifice from those conditional factors. The gender roles that a society assigns apply to all people, independently of race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, and so on. For this reason, we might say that one’s sex comes first in determining how a person sees himself or herself in the context of the group or society. One’s racial identity thus comes conditioned by this gender role, which is often established even before the time a child first encounters any kind of racial distinction. By recognizing the fundamentality of the sexual identity, we recognize that racial identity can be bifurcated by that gender divide between man and woman. This ultimately determines how and by what process the individual assimilates his or her place in a particular racial group into a personal identity. A personal identity is the filter through which we interpret the content of our experience, and a bifurcation in one’s ability to see and interpret the world will inevitably create a

Corporate social responsibility is likely to gain growing importance Essay

Corporate social responsibility is likely to gain growing importance for business, Discuss this statement and relate your answer to ENVIRONMENT - Essay Example This paper defines as â€Å"the commitment of business to contribute to sustainable economic development, working with employees, their families, their local community and society at large to improve their quality of life in ways that are both good for business and development†1 especially as it is framed to accommodate the aspirations of the corporations and the local communities in which they operate. This paper further adds that, since in every society infrastructure basically represents a luxury, corporations should strive at meeting the human standards of the society in which they operate by giving back to that society all that can be considered as humanly from an ethical standpoint. But hardly this is the case. Take the case of CSR problems that arise between SHELL and the indigenes of the Niger-Delta area in Nigeria in which during operations, their main sources of livelihood (i.e. rivers and farmlands) are polluted and destroyed. These damages often lead to conflicts b etween the oil firms and the host communities. Today, the environment is facing increasing pressure from large scale and rapid industrialisation due to modernisation and globalisation that is causing heavy damage all due to mass consumption of the earth’s resources. In a bit to purify the environment, the western world government’s have enacted new environmental legislation aimed at an introduction of major new regulatory regimes such as Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) in England & Wales, where the Environment Agency (EA) is developing new methods of environmental risk screening and targeting of regulatory effort based on the better regulation principles. Under the dynamics of globalisation, economic integration, and global environmental governance, issues of global warming and CO2 emissions have been increasing receiving attention today. This evolution has been unfolding since the 1992 Rio Conference on Environment and Development, through the 2002

Caring for the Elderly and Their Views on Aging

Caring for the Elderly and their Views on Aging Kesha Edwards ECPI University Nursing 111 Mrs. Shaffer June 8th, 2012 The purpose of this report is to investigate the ageing and life of Ms. Rose Brown, who happens to be one of my residents at the nursing home I am currently employed at; how she feels about ageing in today’s society, and also what she has learned and what she would have done differently. She is 67 years-old, and lives by herself. With this report, I intend to learn about her life condition and, as well suggest and inform her ways to improve her life. After spending two afternoons interviewing Ms. Brown, I gained some knowledge on how she perceives the aging process and the impact on the quality of her life. Firstly, she assured me that she views aging in a very positive and healthy way. Ms. Brown first stated that aging itself has a bad reputation, but all isn’t bad. â€Å"The best thing about aging is the experiences one can acquire and share with young er people. She believes that, a positive attitude and assists in accepting oneself and the physical and psychological changes. She enjoys the fact that, she is physically fit and cognitively alert. She is positively sure that with the advances made in a health care, the quality of her life will be granted. Also, she enjoys the benefits of being a senior citizen, including discounted travel and fares, lower cost Medicare. Over all, the spare time to do what she loves. However, when I mention about a long term care, such as Nursing home, if for any instance she ever considered going to a nursing home for a better assistance; she paused for a moment, as if was something that made her really sad.She replied that, she has no regards on going to a nursing home, in her opinion; nursing home is a place where she would feel isolated of the world and her close friends. Most important, she would feel useless, being in a place that people would do everything for her. Secondly, she is afraid to b e neglected and mistreated. Many times she asked herself, will I be happy? Will I be alone or surrounded with happy people? Will I be cared? I also shared with Ms. Brown about different topics concerning elderly, in particular, ageism, social network, and caregiving. On my second interview with Ms. Brown, I decided to bring my Gerontology notebook â€Å" Aging, the Individual, and Society†, so I could share with her some facts about aging, elderly, how society views it, and most important. From the book, we look up about Ageism, I asked her, what she had to say about it and if she ever felt discriminated for being old. She had a positive response to that, she told from the 25 years she had been leaving here, younger generation have always respected her, and generous to her.We also read chapter 4† Physical Health and Wellbeing†, leaving by herself it important to know about being self-sufficient, we cover chapter 5 â€Å"Mental Health†, â€Å"Finances and l ifestyles†, chapter 9, statistically speaking, women’s financial needs are different from men’s. Women live longer than men, most often; they see themselves leaving in an income below average. Lastly, we read chapter 10 â€Å"Living Environment†, and â€Å"The Oldest-old and Caregiving†, on chapter 11.One of my concerns with Ms. Brown was the fact that she was leaving by herself. What are some problems that the elderly may face living alone? I think the greater concern would be loneliness, anyone who has been married for a long time, and now faces widowhood, certainly will miss their mate. Other concerns are, not eating properly; vulnerability to strangers, unable to maintain a household, forgetting to take their medicine, unable to walk outside without help, and the list goes on.As a caretaker at the South Richmond Adult facility, a couple of major challenges facing our facility include; the increased rules and regulations, the increasing burden of Documentation and Paperwork, understaffing and having enough sub-acute trained nurses and quality therapists; seeing that I often have ten to twenty residents because of the understaffing issue, and treating increasingly difficult patients with reduced reimbursements and insufficient funding.Besides my children, two of my most significant accomplishments to date would have to include obtaining my CAN and working in this field for the past six years, and finally making the decision to attend college and obtain my Nursing Degree. A couple of my strengths as being a caretaker would include my communication skills, which I believe are great and benefit me in my everyday career. I enjoy speaking with patients nd families whenever possible. I even spend the day with some of my residents on my days off. I have come to believe that a close friendly relationship is very important with the families as well as the patients as they are coping with ageing of someone close and all the health iss ues that follow. Also, my organizational skills are very important to me as well as my fellow co-workers. Remaining organized and scheduled allows for a smoother day.I have come to believe that my greatest weakness is finding it challenging on occasions to separate my feelings from my career. My views on ageing are that it can be a beautiful thing. If you take care of your body at a young age and eat healthy, when you become older it won’t affect you as much. With age comes wisdom, so once you become a certain age, you have done a lot in life and you have the knowledge and wisdom to pass on to younger people.

Logue lacks legitimacy, which he knows is not important for his ability to help others, but is a frus trating disposition if you take his rules seriously. The King looked past Logue’s lack of formal education and abrasive nature because I believe that he sensed something special about the doctor. Plus I believe the Duke and Logue shared a similar love of law and order, and the strict rules Lionel set allowed the Bertie to follow them with ease. These rules forced Bertie to trust the doctor completely, which establishes a strong bond of ethos between the two men. While the person in question happens to have been an English monarch, his trepidations and fears are no different from any public speaking student that Mr. Logue encountered over the years. So, Logue treats Bertie as though he were a regular, stuttering child and expects him to adhere to the same rules as everyone else.
